Kara Cavel, LICSW, PhD
Dr. Kara Cavel is a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) and Certified Master Level Social Worker (CMSW) in the state of Nebraska. Kara received her undergraduate education in social work at Creighton University, her master degree in social work at the University of Nebraska in Omaha, and her PhD in clinical social work at Smith College School for Social Work.
Kara believes the client is the expert in their life and embraces the ethical standard of self-determination within the clinical practice setting. Kara uses a psychodynamic framework with special attention to Attachment Theory and Trauma Theory to understand human problems. Kara believes using the therapeutic alliance to create a sense of safety and security facilitates growth and healing. Kara emphasizes her clients’ strengths and works to enhance the developmental capacities of individuals through careful listening, mutuality and empathic attunement. Kara believes the therapeutic process fosters the development of authenticity and new ways of relating to both the self and others.
